Our private suites and rooms assure the most comfortable accommodations, and our secluded grounds guarantee the most confidential treatment available. We take a holistic approach to drug and alcohol detox, providing the highest level of individualized care to treat the whole person- body, mind, and spirit. Following detox, clients are provided with extensive therapy, as well as plenty of exposure to 12-Step meetings and recreational activities, all of which give them the tools needed to live a life free of drugs and alcohol. Addiction is a deadly disease, affecting massive numbers of people. According to a 2013 from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), approximately 21.6 million people aged 12 or older met criteria for substance abuse or dependence in that year. Living a life free of drugs and alcohol can seem impossible or overwhelming to someone in active addiction. When the body is used to receiving any drug, including alcohol, on a regular basis, it becomes physically dependent on that drug, and if a user suddenly stops using the drug, they will typically experience withdrawal symptoms. Without proper care, this process can be incredibly dangerous and uncomfortable, and prevents many addicts and alcoholics from attempting to get sober. If a person is physically dependent on drugs and/or alcohol, making the decision to get sober is only the first step. Before any real recovery can begin, the body needs to begin the healing process, so that the mind can be open. For anyone in active addiction or alcoholism, detox should always be included as part of a treatment plan. At Serenity Acres, medical practices and holistic therapies are both applied to detox treatment, so that clients are as comfortable as possible during this process. If you or someone you know has a problem with drugs or alcohol, there is hope for a different way of life. Contact our admissions specialists today for more information.

Dual diagnosis occurs when a person has an alcohol or drug problem, but also suffers from an outside mental disorder. These conditions often occur together; someone who initially has a mental disorder will often try to self medicate, which can result in addiction. In particular, alcohol and drug problems mainly occur following depression and anxiety, but schizophrenia and other personality disorders can contribute as well. Identifying someone with dual diagnosis is easier said than done. Misdiagnoses are common, particularly since most treatment centers diagnose a patient's mental health disorder within hours of intake. At Serenity Acres, we wait until the patient has gone through detox completely before trying to diagnose a mental health disorder. The reason behind this is not confuse behaviors that are related to the addiction with a mental health disorder. Once we come to a conclusion, we use a combination of therapies to prevent additional depression, possible psychosis, and other paranoid behaviors.
